Each of the flowers below is the same PNG format graphic with an alpha channel on four different colored backgrounds. Note how the backgrounds shine through the alpha layer.
Special thanks go out to Nando for designing a website so spectacularly ill-suited for html that it required this hack.
It would be cool is if this same technique could be used somehow with the OBJECT tag and a nested GIF image to provide a rollback for the older browsers too.
